Everything about the Track Engineer
An AI-powered track engineer for Assetto Corsa. Here we answer the most common questions we get about how the AI setup advisor works, what you need, and why a personalized setup beats any generic one you find online.
What is an AI setup advisor for Assetto Corsa?
In real racing, the track engineer is the person on the pit wall who reads a driver's telemetry and tells them what to change on the car — pressures, ride heights, springs, bars, camber, aero. In Assetto Corsa you don't have that role. You download a generic setup and hope it works. The Track Engineer plays that role using AI: it reads your telemetry and builds a setup for how you actually drive, not how someone else does. See our Assetto Corsa tyre pressures guide for how the pressure calibration works.
How does the AI setup advisor work?
You run a few laps in Assetto Corsa with telemetry recording enabled. You drop the .CSV or .LD file into the Track Engineer, connect your OpenAI, DeepSeek or Claude API key, and within seconds you get an analysis of your driving plus a personalized setup. You can add voice or text feedback ("understeer in slow corners", "car snaps on exit") and regenerate until it fits.
How is a Track Engineer setup different from a generic one from Racedepartment?
Setups you find on forums or Discord are built by one specific driver for their exact style. If you brake earlier, turn in more smoothly, or apply throttle later, that setup will feel wrong or even slower than the default. The Track Engineer reads YOUR telemetry — how you use the brake, how you feed throttle, where you lose time — and adapts the car to that. It's the difference between an off-the-rack suit and a tailored one.
What do I need to use the Track Engineer?
Just three things: Assetto Corsa (classic AC, not ACC), telemetry exported as .CSV or .LD, and an API key from OpenAI, DeepSeek or Claude (costs cents per query). The Track Engineer is a one-time €19.90 — no subscription, no per-car limit, no per-track limit.
Does it work with any car and track in Assetto Corsa?
Yes. The Track Engineer reads the real telemetry from whatever car you're driving on whatever track you're driving, so it works with the full Kunos content and the most popular mods (RSS, URD, VRC, ACFL, GT3 packs). No per-car setup packs to install — you drive, you export telemetry, it builds.
How long does it take to generate a setup?
Depends on the AI model, but typically 20 seconds to 1 minute per iteration. A full cycle — drive laps, export telemetry, generate setup, test on track, give feedback and regenerate — takes about 15-25 minutes. Considerably less than the hours you'd spend tweaking parameters by hand with no idea where to start.
Is it good for league racing or just practice?
Both. Most of our users are GT3, LMP2 and F1 league racers who need a competitive setup per track and don't have 3 hours to test blind. The Track Engineer gives you a starting point built for you; from there you refine with 2-3 feedback iterations and you have a race-ready setup.
